Barbco Inc. Unveils Maxi Rig

Known for its smaller HDD rigs and auger boring equipment,
Barbco Inc. has officially entered the big rig market. The company unveiled its
BD-500 TK rig at a special event Nov. 5 at its East Canton, Ohio,
headquarters.
The BD-500 TK is a track-mounted, 500,000-lb thrust and
pullback rig, with 18,000 lbs of torque at 0 to 90 rpm and 63,000 ft-lbs of
torque at 0 to 35 rpm. It’s powered by an onboard Caterpillar C-18 700-hp diesel
engine and a four-drive, rack-and-pinion carriage drive (providing a maximum
carriage speed of 100 ft per minute), 3-in. fluid swivel with floating spindle,
400-gal fuel capacity and a 300-gal hydraulic reservoir.

Barbco Builds Biggest-ever Boring Machine
for Monster Dig

For
a portion of the work for the Gwinnet County (Ga.) Water Treatment Plant,
subcontractor Strack Inc. needed to bore an 84-in. OD, 130-ft long drive beneath
the Norfolk Southern Railroad in Sugar Hill, Ga. The 15-ft deep drive through
red clay and the occasional railroad tie presented an intriguing set of
challenges for the team.
A drive of this diameter would typically be
spec’d for a tunnel boring machine (TBM) or hand-mined. Nevertheless, the 130-ft
length of the drive put it in a no-man’s land method-wise. The length is just
short enough that a TBM might be prohibitively expensive to deploy, but just

2.6 Million-Lb Auger Machine Unveiled

Barbco Inc. recently unveiled its latest Extreme Auger Boring Machine —
Model 72/84-2.6MXHD — at a recent industry trade show and also introduced the
folks who purchased the mammoth machine to the media.
Strack Inc., Fairburn, Ga., recently purchased the machine, described by Barbco officials to be “the largest and most powerful auger boring machine known to be made by a manufacturer in the history of the trenchless technology industry.”...(Read More)
Central Florida Underground, INC. has used Barbco Inc. equipment for several earth boring projects including this multiple bore consisting of a series of 8 side by side steel cased bores ranging in length of 300' to 320'. Diameters of 42", 30" and 24" were drilled using a Barbco 60/66-1MM Boring Machine and Grade Steering System.
